You will study 2 units:
Unit 1: This unit is an investigation into what business enterprise is all about, including how businesses are organised and how people are involved. It also looks at new issues such as ‘ethical’ and ‘green’ business. You will focus on one local and one national or international business. In previous years we have investigated Cadbury, Drayton Manor and Boulder Central.
Unit 2: This unit focuses on how businesses record financial transactions, make payments and keep records of how they are doing. You will learn about balance sheets, profit and loss accounts and how to use these to understand business performance in a practical context.
The GCSE in Business aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills to enable you to go on to either an apprenticeship with an employer or to a full time education course in a variety of business fields. These include business administration, sales and customer service, business and personal finance, retail etc. Much of what you learn is transferable across many different types of business environments including e-commerce and small business enterprise.
Unit one is coursework assessment and accounts for 60% of the overall award.
Unit two is assessed by examination and accounts for 40% of the overall award
